About CED – Centre Européen de Dermocosmétologie

Created in 1962 in Lyon by 3 pioneers of cosmetology (an industrial magnet, H.M. Gattefossé, a pharmacist, J. Cotte and a dermatologist H. Thiers), the Centre Européen de Dermocosmétologie is a professional association, whose initial aim was to promote high-level training in cosmetology. Today, the CED’s main missions are to:

  • Promote Dermocosmetology at a national and international level.
  • Organise events to improve the understanding of subjects pertaining to the profession and the sector of dermocosmetology.
  • To promote interdisciplinary research projects with existing competitive clusters (biology, plastics, leather, textile, chemicals etc.)
  • To adapt the teaching of dermocosmetics to the needs of industry

Dermocosmetology in the Lyon area

Dermocosmetology is the fusion of skin care, make-up, hygiene and beauty treatments. It is one of the most dynamic industries in France and the Lyon area. Its origins and resources are rooted in Lyon’s silk trade, where life sciences brought innovation and renewal to chemical raw materials industry.

The Lyon area has all the necessary components to facilitate the set-up of cosmetics industries: raw materials and active ingredients, specialised service providers in skin biometrics and packaging. The sector also benefits from the presence of world-renowned competitive clusters, such as Lyonbiopôle, Axelera and Techtera.
