The research teams at BIOASTER will soon be settling into their new building at the campus of the Lyon-Gerland Biodistrict, alongside world leaders in the life sciences (Sanofi Pasteur, Merial, Genzyme and others) and innovative SMEs (Aguettant, Genoway and others).

BIOASTER is a Technological Research Institute (IRT) specializing in infectiology and microbiology. The only IRT dedicated to healthcare selected by the French State as part of its Investissements d’Avenir (Investments for the Future) program, it is built upon a unique public-private partnership model and is led jointly by the Lyonbiopôle competitiveness cluster and Institut Pasteur.

BIOASTER has built a new facility in Lyon, called BIOASTER1, with 80% of the funding coming from the Rhône-Alpes Regional Council and Lyon Metropole, and a €1 million grant from Sanofi Pasteur, the industrial founder of the IRT. Delivered in early July 2015, the center is now ready to welcome all of the Institute’s Lyon teams. Entirely dedicated to innovation, BIOASTER1 features a surface of 3,800 sq. m., 2,200 sq. m. of which is dedicated to biosafety level 1, 2 and 3 laboratories and collaborative workspaces built to house research teams from the industrial and academic spheres.

This new building will be one of the jewels of the Lyon-Gerland Biodistrict,” says Pascale Boissel, Deputy Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer at BIOASTER. “It will be a true home to projects, designed to host multidisciplinary teams and our partners for the development of excellence programs in the infectiology and microbiology fields.”

This relocation will bring leading research players closer together and strengthen Lyon-Gerland Biodistrict’s renown and influence.
