Air Canada has just announced that it has added a new flight between Lyon and Montreal. The service between the two cities is slated to begin on June 17, 2016 and will operate year round.

Air Canada is one of the 20 largest airlines in the world. It currently has more than 180 destinations on all 5 continents, with 1,470 scheduled flights per day.

In the beginning, the airline will offer 5 direct flights a week between Lyon and Montreal, and then one flight per day starting in summer 2017. The aircraft, an Airbus A 330-300, will feature two classes of service: 37 seats in international business class and 228 in the main cabin.

This route is strategic for Air Canada. By choosing Lyon, the airline is strengthening its presence in France and supplementing its offering with a very important destination in terms of business and leisure travel.

Following its rapprochement with Dubai, this new destination will enable Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport to reaffirm its position as a major European airport. It is also good news for Lyon Metropole, which is thus adding a gateway to North America and another catalyst of economic influence.

The opening of this route will consolidate the strong ties already established between Lyon and Montreal, thanks to a “partnership going back more than thirty years, based on significant economic, academic and cultural exchanges”, according to Gérard Collomb, President of Lyon Metropole.
