The Axelera hub in the Rhone-Alpes region is developing as far away as Latin America and has announced the opening of an office in Brazil by the end of the year.

A great opportunity for the competitiveness cluster which now brings together 300 actors from the industry and chemistryenvironment research sectors, amongst which, Rhôdia, Arkema, Alsthrome and Veolia environnement. There is also involvement from universities and training centres like the well-known CNRS – National Centre for Scientific Research, based on the la Doua campus in Lyon.

Having gone from strength to strength since its creation in 2005, Axelara has supported 201 research and development projects for a total investment of 675 million Euros.

Amongst its latest partnerships are projects financed by the Fonds Unique Interministériel (Single Inter-ministerial Fund) and certified by the cluster, dealing with problems such as the chemical value of CO2 and the development of a thermal protection solution for transparent textile coatings. The latter is a collaborative project with the Techtera hub, which is based in Lyon and focuses on textile technologies.

The Axelera cluster is now in the top 10 in Europe and aims to enter into the top 5 biggest European innovation clusters in the chemicals-environment sector by 2015.
