Lafarge and Holcim have announced their plans to merge and create a new giant in the construction industry: LafargeHolcim.
The CEO of Lafarge, Bruno Lafont, claimed nonetheless that “the company will not leave France,” and, more specifically, that the Rhône-Alpes region would retain the strategic functions and R&D department in the Lyon area.


The new entity arises from the joint desire to innovate in the industrial sector by focusing on the key challenges for the industry: eco-construction, environmental protection and sustainable development.
The construction materials sector has indeed seen profound transformations and the industry must now work closely with territorial development agencies and town planning agencies.


The new company will be based in Switzerland will be valued at more than €32 billion, with 130,000 employees.
It will take the lead in the construction materials industry, present in over 90 countries, with a good spread between developed and emerging markets.
