The Boston CEO Conference, which took place on the 11th and 12th June in Boston, is a networking forum for industry CEOs and decision-makers in the life sciences.

Attendees gain insights from presentations and panels featuring CEOs from several of the world’s leading biopharmaceutical companies.  Industry leaders in venture capital and private equity also participate.  European development was one of the key topics and was analyzed from several different angles: future health regulation, prices, reimbursement, and the setting-up of clinical trials.

One of “Invest in Lyon”s representatives was Thomas Roche, a lawyer working in Lyon’s life sciences sector, who responded to attendees’ questions regarding prospects in Europe and, more specifically, France. He confirmed that Europe is an attractive region for potential investors. Philippe Yvergnaux, Head of Invest in France North America, gave an overview of the financial incentives to support research and development activities which make France the most attractive country in Europe for developing new drugs and medical devices.

Furthermore, “Invest in Lyon” wanted to share some important information with the American CEOs and decision-makers regarding European harmonization of prices, reimbursement, and the setting-up of clinical trials, which will take place in the near future. This European regulation will facilitate both entry into the European market and the generation of revenue.

The “Invest in Lyon” delegation was led by Life Sciences Director, who stated “the conference is a very important opportunity for exchange concerning a number of therapeutic areas of the life sciences sector in Lyon, for example, infectiology, vaccines, inflammation, oncology, neurology, and our capacity to conduct clinical trials through hospitals and clinical research organizations”.

A number of CEOs and local decision-makers from the Lyon region also attended the Boston Conference. The presence of a large community from Lyon and the dynamic shared projects and synergies which exist between the two cities reinforce Lyon’s attractiveness on the international stage.
