LYONS BIOTECH PARK: scientific park and research center
At the heart of the Rockfeller University Hospital Center, one of the largest city-center hospitals in Europe, the Biotech Park welcomes biotechnology research companies and units.
One of the flagship developments of the Lyon metropolitan area, the first building, the 7300-sq. m Adenine, will be ready to welcome its occupants about a year from now. Among them will be Cancéropole Lyon Rhône-Alpes Auvergne and Genopoïetic. The company, whose head office is based in Philadelphia, already has an R&D unit north of Lyon. It will set up a 2200-sq. m vaccine manufacturing unit with a possible 2600-sq. m extension. Ultimately, it could bring in some 150 people to the Biotech Park
The park is already home to several companies in its enterprise zone, including the start-ups of Erytech Pharma and Hikma Biotech. By 2010, it will offer over 40, 000 sq. m of space, including a services center and a hotel residence. It will mean that Lyon has one of the highest concentrations of university hospitals in Europe. With over 1100 researchers, 171 research companies and 6000 beds in clinics.
