Neurosciences
The region is one of the few in Europe to cover all of the fields in the neurosciences and cognitive sciences, with an outstanding neuroimaging potential for research or clinical applications in humans or animals. Neurosciences research is based on:
A hospital dedicated to neurological diseases (the Pierre Wertheimer Neurological and Neurosurgery Hospital in Lyon);
A Neurosciences Federative Research Institute (IFR) that brings together 13 research units;
A comprehensive multimodal imaging platform: one of Europes few ESRF medical beamlines, synchrotron or positron imaging, a functional MRI imaging device, IRM 7T, encephalography devices (MEG) and more;
Neurocap, a Neurosciences Thematic Research and Care Network (RTRS), accredited in early 2007, which aims to discover and validate new strategies for preventing and treating neurosensory, motor, cognitive and psychiatric disabilities;
NeuroBioTec: a database specialized in neurological diseases and related services;
And EDMUS, the worlds largest multiple sclerosis database.
