LYON CONFLUENCE
Lyon Confluence is one of the largest city-center development projects underway in Europe. This 150-hectare site (370 acres), a former industrial zone, from Perrache train station to the confluent of the Rhone and Saône rivers, is being totally transformed. The new zone will include housing, services, leisure activities (photo) and major cultural establishments, such as the future Confluences Museum. The majority of the project will be completed by early 2009. The remaining phases will run through 2015. When all works are finished, the population in the Confluence district and the number of jobs will have grown from 7000 to 25,000.
The first occupants of the district will be the headquarters of the Lyon daily newspaper, Le Progrès" (completed in 2007), the company Les Salins and the headquarters of the radio stations of Espace Group.
